CBD is becoming a widely used ingredient in skin care products, including oils, ointments, and lotions. Research suggests that the immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory properties of cannabinoids show promise for the treatment of a variety of dermatological conditions, including inflammatory skin diseases, dermatitis, and pruritus.
In a recent small study, individuals with psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, or resulting scars were instructed to administer topical CBD-enriched ointment to affected skin areas twice daily for three months. Based on results from clinical skin evaluations and patient questionnaires, topical treatment with CBD ointment significantly improved skin disorders and conditions, including increased hydration level and elasticity and decreased blemishes and scarring. Notably, CBD treatment resulted in a significant improvement in psoriasis severity. No irritant or allergic adverse events were reported. CBD-enrichment ointment has the potential to be an effective therapeutic option for patients with chronic inflammatory skin conditions. Further research and larger trials are needed to determine the long-term safety, tolerability, and efficacy of CBD ointment.
